  1. In my opinion Man-Child is the funkiest album of Herbie Hancock's early jazz/funk/fusion era, the grooves start off with the funk fusion guitar "Hang Up Your Hang Ups," and the beat just keeps jamming until the album's end. "Sun Touch" and "Bubbles" are slower, but funky cool smooth/5().

  3. Gram Virgin Vinyl! Fast-Paced Funky Style! Delightful, Unique Style! After his early avant-garde years with Blue Note Records, Herbie Hancock achieved much success with pop music fans by gradually turning towards a mixture of Afro-American styles in which he combined soul, jazz and funk.

  5. But Man-Child's structures are more varied and the solos are more involving than anything on Thrust. This is altogether a braver, more substantial LP; hopefully its reception will embolden Hancock to move further beyond formula toward the lasting fusion of improvisational interest and R&B drive he is capable of creating. 6. For Herbie Hancock, ’s Headhunters was a radical change of direction. After recording some very risk-taking fusion for Warner Bros. from with his Sextant, the keyboardist/pianist went for slicker, more accessible jazz-funk instrumentalism on Headhunters and subsequent Columbia dates like Secrets and Man Child (which Mobile Fidelity has reissued as a great-sounding gold audiophile.
